In Total Coffeebarchick Mode

My day began and ended with a Caffe Misto.  Thankfully tonight I remembered to ask for a decaf.  Sometimes I forget, and then end up watching infomercials till dawn.

It may be Saturday night at a Manhattan Starbucks, but the music is totally New Orleans Jazzy ladies and gents.  Very jazzy.

A woman just walked in with a laptop under her arm. You know that Barry Manilow song about Lola the old show girl who hangs around discotheques in the dress she used to wear faded feathers in her hair? Well, she’s making a special appearance here tonight. She’s pounding away at that keyboard. Blogging perhaps.

There are four happy young college students at the table to my right. Two girls two boys chattering away. All smiles. Just looking at them uplifts me.

For those of you who don’t know, my daughter dubbed me Coffeebarchick when we got the first computer, and had to come up with AOL handles.

Why? Because I spent my free time scribbling in notebooks at coffee houses all over Manhattan.  Strangers used to tell me they had never seen anyone write so fast.  My right middle finger has a permanent bump from clutching pens, and writing as if the devil would take me if I stopped. I would post a pic of said bump, but like I said it’s my middle finger ;)

These days most of my writings are blog posts from my mobile. A small notebook is always in my bag for emergencies. Sometimes I’ll freewrite for pages and pages, then tear it all up into tiny bits. Try it – it’s a good way to cast your cares.

Speaking of blogging the NaBloPoMo theme for May is PLAY. The little girl inside me wants to come out and do just that.

Okay, closing time was just announced for the third time.

Gotta bounce.

Til later.

  1. I have a permanent bump on my ring finger from writing. Although, with the advent of the computer, it’s become much smaller and less noticeable.
